"Children are the world's most valuable resource and its best hope for the future."
With the "Young Leader's Initiative", I had the opportunity of giving these superstar kids an experiential learning. At the end of the workshop, we had kids coming up to us and thanking us with warm messages and gifts for adding so much value to their life. But what they don't understand is how much learning this is for us as educators. It's always a win-win in situations like this.
These workshops are nothing like the offload of information on them that happens in most schools. This is to widen their exposure and enhance their own personalities. It is not easy for everyone to get through to kids in an experiential workshop. It is possible when:
1. We are open-minded. Kids are sensitive to their environment and pick a lot of actions and habits from people they see and idolize. By being open to accepting all kinds of kids we provide an elevated environment for them to learn from.
2. We are uninhibited. We can't have boundaries and restrictions on ourselves and expect children to open up and unleash their full potential with us. It is always 'give more to get more from the kids'.
3. We are authentic. They can easily see through the pretense if any. It is most important to be ourselves and radiate whatever we want them to imbibe. The easiest way is to unleash our own inner kids, teach and learn along with them as kids.
It was a wonderful experience spending time with the kids at Tibetan Children's Village (TCV), Gopalpur, Himachal Pradesh. There's no better high than seeing kids with full energy and smiles on their faces while they are learning something new. Always striving to keep the curiosity alive in them. : )
